Earthy, mellow, dry, comforting and fulfilling, I think this plant is reminiscent of green tea at the beginning of the brew, and black tea after a long steep, Mamaki is a member of the nettle family native to the Hawaiian islands, and there are hints of that ancestral umami nettle flavor in the brew as well. Something about it though, whispers of the ocean. On the islands, Mamaki is often used for pain and swelling, as a blood and tissue cleaner from vog (volcano smog) and environmental toxins, a mild diuretic to promotes weight loss, and an aid for colic, according to Hawaiian Healer Kekane Nahinu and studies done by the University of Hawaii. I was intrigued by its use to combat the effects of vog and other air pollutants in the body so you’ll also find this incredible plant in the Wildfire Resilience tea

These particular leaves that you're ordering come from the small farm Waiholoku'i Garden in Pāhoa - a lava flow area on the big island of Hawaii. I’m so excited to be working with them, and to be bringing such a special plant to the mainland! Enjoy!

Brew for a minimum of 5 minutes

Use 1-1.5 whole leaves of tea(crumpled) per 8 ounces of 212°F water

You can float these in a cup without a bag - once they’ve infused they fall to the bottom of the cup.

The more you crumple, the stronger the infusion!
